The historic and charming village of Del Mar is located just to the north of La Jolla, and is home to many renowned restaurants, unique shops, and luxury hotels. Del Mar hosts a variety of beautiful wide white sand beaches, some considered among the finest in San Diego County. Surfing, swimming, body boarding, and jogging along the sand are among the many pursuits enjoyed by Del Mar residents. The town is also home to the Del Mar Fairgrounds, which host the Del Mar Races and San Diego County Fair in the summer months.
The only Tom Fazio designed course in San Diego is the Grand Golf Club at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar. The par 71 course, with over 7,000 yards of greens is strategically nestled in east Del Mar's meadows, hillsides and valleys.
Del Mar is also one of few locations in which the Torrey Pine tree grows. The Torrey Pine is the rarest type of the United States and only two populations of the endangered species exist. The Torrey Pines Natural State Reserve, located between La Jolla and Del Mar includes 2,000 acres of land are as they were before San Diego was developed — including the maritime chaparral, the rare Torrey pine, miles of unspoiled beaches, and a lagoon that is vital to migrating sea birds. The Reserve is visited by travelers from all over the world and by local residents who come daily to rest at the stunning overlooks, hike down to the beach, walk a peaceful trail, or exercise in a clean, beautiful environment.
